Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises - MSMEs are the backbone of the economy and is the largest employment provider in our country. To promote MSMEs, MSMED Act 2006 was formulated by the Government. MSME registration is compulsory, to get the various benefits from the Government and banking sector under the MSMED Act.

Government of India has streamlined the process of MSME Registration. An enterprise for this process is known as “Udyam” and its registration process is known as “Udyam Registration.” From April 1, 2021 Udyam Registration has been made mandatory. Meanwhile, validity of the EM-II Entrepreneurs Memorandum Part-II and UAM - Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum registrations have been extended till December 31, 2021 due to the pandemic.

MSME has a new classification effective June 2020. Manufacturing & Service Enterprises will be classified as a micro, small or medium enterprise based on the following criteria -

Micro:
Plant & Machinery Investment in Rs. < 1 crore
Plant & Machinery Turnover in Rs. < 5 crores
Small:
Plant & Machinery Investment in Rs. < 10 crore
Plant & Machinery Turnover in Rs. < 50 crores
Medium:
Plant & Machinery Investment in Rs. < 50 crore
Plant & Machinery Turnover in Rs. < 250 crores

Any person who intends to establish a micro, small or medium enterprise may file Udyam Registration online in the Udyam Registration portal based on self-declaration.

  • Free online registration
  • No uploading of documents
  • No need for renewal of registration
  • No enterprise shall file more than one Udyam Registration. An enterprise with any number of Manufacturing & Service activities can be specified under one registration.
KYC for Udyam Registration
  • Aadhaar number and PAN
  • Enterprise details – Address, Incorporation date, Bank details, Investment & Turnover details etc.

  • Go to Udyam Registration portal - www.udyamregistration.gov.in
  • New entrepreneurs - click the button “For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II”.
  • Already Registered UAM users - click the button “For those already having registration as UAM or “For those already having registration as UAM through assisted filing”.
  • Fill the registration form
  • For new entrepreneurs -

    • Enter Aadhaar number and enterprenuer name
    • Click “Validate & Generate OTP”.
    • Fill the PAN card details
    • Once verification of PAN card is done, fill the enterprise details in registration form.

    Already registered UAM users -

    • Enter Udyog Aadhaar Number
    • Select OTP option
    • Click “Validate & Generate OTP”
    • Fill the enterprise details in registration form
  • Udyam Registration number will be allocated
  • Certificate with QR code will be issued Online

Once the details given in registration form is verified, Udyam certificate will be issued in few days.
